WHY WE FIGHT THE FOOD FIGHT

The United Nations expects the global population to surge to nearly 10 billion by 2050, creating many more mouths to feed and putting more pressure on natural resources. In addition, climate and labor concerns, supply chain issues and the COVID-19 pandemic have forced governments, scientists and businesses to reassess how we feed the world.

Undeterred by the complexity of the problem we encourage the agricultural community to join us as we work to create a more resilient food system designed for the long-term wellbeing of people and the planet.

A REsilient Food System

Owning the solution

AppHarvest uses approximately 2.08 gallons of water per pound of tomatoes; over 90% less than the global average of 25 gallons per pound.

Our controlled indoor environment promotes climate resiliency. Our hybrid lighting allows us to use LED lights that are 40% more efficient than traditional lighting.

Rainwater

We use rainwater for our crops and up to 90% less water than traditional agriculture

No Agricultural Runoff

Facilities designed to produce up to 30x more on the same amount of land without agricultural runoff

Climate Resilient

System set up to grow in all seasons and to help protect our produce from extreme weather

Less Food Waste

Committed to achieving zero food waste

Pesticide-Free Goal: We use a combination of high-tech and low-tech solutions to avoid pests and to ensure the health of our plants. Our first line of defense is advanced integrated pest management (IPM) with a team that includes an IPM manager and IPM scouts.
